Yup...I bought starbucks with bitcoin (via Baakt)

Difficulty Level - Medium

Its our Seventh post in the "I did what with crypto" series...

  • In our first post (click here)... we bought skittles from a physical store

  • In our second post (click here)... we went online shopping

  • In our third post (click here)... we paid rent to my landlord..

  • In our fourth post (click here)... we donated to the red cross

  • In our fifth post (click here)... we used dogecoin to buy Ice cream

  • In our sixth post (click here)... we used paypal's pay with crypto feature

In this post i share my experience using paying for starbucks with crypto

My Ingredients

  • An app called Baakt

  • The Starbucks App and Store

The rest of the story - How it works

1. I downloaded the Baakt App and acquired crypto on Baakt. The app is available for both apple and android at their respective app stores. It's also pretty intuitive to use and pretty straightforward. I bought $20 worth of Bitcoin on the app...

  • First you have to deposit cash, which is super easy because you can just connect you bank account by logging in to it using their integration powered by plaid

  • Once the cash is deposited you can use that to buy crypto..

  • FYI Baakt is actually owned by Intercontinental Exchange who also owns the New York Stock Exchange. So arguably the biggest exchange in the world has a crypto app/exchange/platform

2. Check out the history that shows, (a) linking of my bank account (b) deposit of $20 (c) purchase $20 worth of bitcoin

2. Now for the starbucks side of things.

  • In the starbucks App we need to plug in "BAAKT" as a method of payment (baakt has an agreement with starbucks to be used as a payment method)

  • Then use that to Buy a $15 Starbucks card on the App. Once the purchase is made notice that the Baakt App automatically sells $15 worth of bitcoin and my baakt balance is no ~$5

3. Now that i have a $15 starbucks gift card. I can simply place an order on the starbucks app using the gift card. In my case, a blueberry scone and some lemonade.

So what?

Besides the obvious, what's unique about this is, my bitcoin wallet with Baakt being used as a "payment method" i.e. instead of putting in my debit card or credit card as a payment method, i put in Baakt which automatically connected to my wallet with Baakt to use my crypto for the starbucks purchase.

How it needs to get better?

I enjoyed how seamless it was in that Baakt automatically sold the required amount of bitcoin for my purchase and notified me by text. However, I am still buying a "gift" card, not making a direct purchase with starbucks. The ability to make a direct purchase would be great as it takes one step away.

Now you!!!

Leave me a message, or better... go do something... anything with crypto and tell us about it...maybe we will even post your story in this series!!
